Hot Lunch #2
This week - Holy Basil Weisse redux, Street Weisse growler drop, rawdogging it at Witt's End, trivia, Disco Bingo, & birthday week updates!
Another week, another Hot Lunch! Sometimes you drink the beer and sometimes the beer drinks you… Like Ace Ventura coming out the wrong side of a rhino, I got behind! I had to crawl all up in the kettle to clean it out this morning so I had to move Hot Lunch back. Don’t you tell me I’m late!!! Whose newsletter is this, anyway?!
Holy Basil, Batman!
Let me tell you, Kember and her crew really know how to get NASTY! The delicata squash with Holy Basil Weisse tempura, kimchi mayo, and nasturtium powder was by far the most popular special all weekend… It tasted so damn good with the beer. Huge thanks to the whole Waterford Inne crew for showing up in force and rocking the house with great food to pair with our collab and good vibes all around!!! There’s still plenty of Holy Basil on tap and in cans to go, so if you missed the release, at least you won’t miss out on this delicious Berliner weisse.
You asked (constantly) and we answered (about time): we’re bringing back growlers! This week’s growler drop is going to be STREET WEISSE, our collab with chef Jeremy Donovan at Bar Kosho. We plan on releasing a beer or two in growlers every week for the entire month of April and beyond to make sure that we can offer the beers we haven’t canned yet to go during our birthday week. No deposit on these babies, so we won’t be doing $3 growler returns anymore, but we will take them back, wash them, and refill them if you bring your old growlers in. Cheaper for you, cheaper for us. What could be better?
We were living life on the edge at the Norway Outing Club run last week at Witt’s End… We decided to go without traction control, and although we had a couple hairy moments, there were no casualties to report! If you missed this week’s video complete with commentary giving some serious runner dad vibes, you can find it here. No promises on trail conditions this week; looks like we’re supposed to get another couple inches of wet snow overnight, followed by - you guessed it - rain! The rain’s supposed to stop around 1 or 2pm, but if it doesn’t we’ll still be at the trailhead at 5. You’ll want to bring those spikes anyway in case it’s slippery!
Just in time for the Outing Club crew to return muddy & sweating from the woods, Trivia starts at 6pm! We’ve got 5 rounds of questions that [should] make you feel pretty smart, unless you don’t know anything about TV shows. Or music. Or useless factoids that you’ll never need for anything other than trivia night. Except that one guy that was here two weeks ago who was on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire… So I guess it could come in handy?
Saturday night is Disco Bingo night, so you’ll get to see Charlie all dressed up in his best approximation of 70s disco attire while yelling letters & numbers at you! We’ve got some weird prizes hidden around here somewhere, and the competition will be fierce; word is that since it’s on a Saturday, my kids will be there to try and win it all… Watch out! Your first card is free; every additional card after that is $5 that goes to Harrison Food Bank.
It’s our birthday and we’re partying all week!!! We got confirmation that BANDWICH is playing 7-10pm on 4/19, THE 3WHEELERS from 3-5pm on 4/20, & SAM WHITMAN from 6-9pm for Industry Night on 4/22! These are some of the jammiest, grooviest, funkiest bands around; perfect for a year when Easter falls on 4/20 during our 9th anniversary, amiright? If you don’t come for the birthday cake, beer, & munchie brunch specials, definitely come check out these bands! More birthday updates to follow…

About Norway Brewing Co.
Norway Brewing Company is a family-owned microbrewery & restaurant on Main Street in Norway, Maine, founded by the Melhus family in 2016. We have a family-friendly taproom open year-round, as well as a spacious beer garden during the warmer months. We brew our own beer and our food is hand-made and tailored to suit the season. Our goal has always been to use as many locally sourced ingredients as possible. Over the years we’ve worked with local millers, maltsters, farmers, butchers, fishmongers, & beverage producers to supply our taproom & brewery with Maine-made products & ingredients. Cheers to nine years of making food & beer in western Maine!
That’s all the Hot Lunch we got this week… If anybody asks, tell ‘em where to find us: right here, every Wednesday at lunch time! As our head brewer Charlie always says, “Better late than stuck in a tank.”
You wear it well, Magne.
